What is VOIP?
Recent technological advances combined with consumer demand for new telephony services and cheaper prices, have led to the creation of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony or IP telephony services. IP telephony, is voice service on Internet Protocol (IP), as opposed to traditional circuit-switched telephone service. VoIP breaks calls are into "packets" and then sends them over data networks and to be reassembled upon arrival. This is a more efficient means of transmitting and it results in lower costs compared to traditional phone calls. Today, the switches are no longer tangible assets, but software running on computer servers capable of reassembling voice communication.
